Tuesday Book Review #2

I have read this book very, very often to my children from about age one, and I would love to recommend it to you! It is a very simple counting book with delicate rhyming words and gentle illustrations. Your toddler and preschooler will enjoy the rhythm of the prose and illustrations.  Great book to read for springtime! Enjoy!

Finally, Genevieve thought, I've finished my homework! Now I can get in some quality reading time..  She picked up the new book and voraciously began reading it again.
Ignoring the world outside the pages, and winding herself deeper and deeper into the story, she didn't even notice her cat, Jasper, darting around her bedroom.  He was growing more and more agitated.
"Jasper!" Genevieve hissed, as the cat pounced into her lap, forcing her to put down the book.
The feline's gray ears were pinned back against his head, and his eyes were shining with a hyper-awareness of...something.
"Jasper, what is it? What do you see?"
Genevieve began to grow concerned with her cat's behavior, as he possessed a calm temperment most of the time.
At that very moment, she noticed something sitting on her windowsill...something that had not been there before.

Masterpiece by Elise Broach

Written for ages 8-12, this heartwarming children's novel tells about the unique friendship between a shy boy named James and a beetle named Marvin who lives under his kitchen sink.  The two share a special bond as they get caught up in an art mystery together and must rely on their friendship to solve it.  The illustrations by Kelly Murphy are breathtaking and add a beautiful dimension to the story.  I enjoyed the simplicity and innocence of this story and would highly recommend it!

I'm Back!!

Hello, readers! I have been on hiatus from this blog for quite some time...but I have returned and will be adding some new features to enhance this site! Stay tuned!

The book was just as engaging and suspenseful as Genevieve had hoped. She had the first chapter read in a matter of minutes and was well on her way through the second when her mother walked in the room.
"Gen, what are you doing? We have to get these books out on the shelves by tomorrow morning!"
Her mother did not sound the least bit happy with the situation.
Genevieve sat up immediately.
"Mom, I'm sorry. I just...uh...needed a little break. I'll get back to work."
Her mom gave her a reassuring smile and hugged her.
"Thank you, sweetheart. I'm sorry for getting so upset. Just feeling a little overwhelmed myself."
Genevieve smiled back at her mom, feeling relieved that her mother wasn't really upset with her.
"Just take your time, honey. I know it'll all get done," her mother said, flashing Genevieve another apologetic look.
Genevieve got back to work, anxious to finish and get back to the book again.
